About me

I first found my passion for design and sewing at the age of 13 years old. My parents bought me my first sewing machine. It was a secondhand domestic machine, costing £20. From there I made the majority of my wardrobe for a fraction of the price on the high street, all the while harnessing my skill, creativity and flare for design. I was hooked!

After school I enrolled on a fashion and manufacturing course; I loved it. I passed with flying colours and would have loved to progress further in higher education, however my time to make a living had come .

I started my career as a ladies coat designer for Snugkoat Ltd in Manchester.
During my early career I was personally commissioned to make outerwear for Big Daddy and John Lees (Barclay James Harvest lead singer) to name but a few. I also made wedding dresses and brides maid attire for private commissions.
From Snugkoat Ltd I decided my production knowledge required more breadth of understanding and changed direction. I took a manufacturing job in a factory producing garments for Marks & Spencer’s and Pennies Of America. This role stood me in good stead and paved the way for a solid foundation of knowledge in manufacturing techniques and a commercial eye for detail.

Having spent the majority of my career in the “rag trade” and not one to turn my back on something I love I have created a spacious sewing workshop where I alter all manor of garments for my growing client base. From bridal and prom to ladies, gents and children’s wear.
I thoroughly enjoy bridal work. Not only is there the obvious glitz and glamour but being a part of such a special occasion is a privilege. From the first briefing, through the fittings to the dress collection you really do go on a journey with these ladies.
I hope that my passion for fashion and garment construction shines through this bio and you get a feel for who I am and the skill set I can offer.
Thank you for taking time to read this far.

Yours faithfully,
Janice
